Electronics Engineering - Department of Electronics
I am a student at Coventry University studying Electronics Engineering. I will be presenting Environmental Monitoring Project with Intel Edison. The project will be based on Intel Edison Kit which will monitor the changes in the surrounding in a greenhouse. The features planned for the implementation are, measuring, analysing and controlling the greenhouse by using sensors and IoT (Internet of Things) system. The system will be able to measure the temperature, humidity, UV Light and Motion in the environment and enable user to realise these changes and react to the cases which may create danger. The main productivity of the project is controlling the system from wherever the user is by using HTML web page designed by the author. The importance of the project can be listed as:
– Efficiency (Power, Energy)
– Cost Saving
– Controllable Environment
– Time Saving
In order to complete all the aspects of the project the software programme Arduino (1.6.0) will be used. The Intel Edison board is powered up with 9V. The designed web page (HTML) by the author is demonstrating the sensor values, the actuator status and allow user to react to the changes in the system. Assuming that the motion sensor has detected a movement within the greenhouse, this will be displayed in the web page. This allows user to have a secured system. Nowadays, as the IoT is a growing sector, the engineers should make sure that the designed systems are secure as all the information is shared via Internet which is not a secure platform. The actuators used in the system relay and servo are controlled with the same way as motion sensor.
